Antitrust wants Tele2 to cut tariffs back after January increase

MOSCOW, Sep 13 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service has found mobile operator T2 RTK Holding, working under brand Tele2, guilty of violating the law by raising tariffs in January and asked the company to reduce the prices, the watchdog said on Monday in a statement.

The authority said that it completed consideration of the case on infringement of the antimonopoly law on Monday regarding T2 RTK Holding. “The antimonopoly authority states that the level of increasing the tariffs is not explained by growth of expenses and found T2 RTK Holding guilty of violating the antimonopoly law,” the service said.

“Now the operator must return the unjustifiably hiked tariffs of mobile connection services to the level existing before the increase,” the service said.

The authority said that Tele2 raised the prices of mobile connection services for more than its 12 million individual subscribers by 13% on average in January and explained the decision by higher expenses. The watchdog received multiple applications from the operator’s subscribers.
